It might not be January anymore, but any day works if you want to turn over a new leaf and improve your life. Maybe you didn’t keep all of your New Year’s resolutions last year, but don’t worry. Start today and this could still be the best year of your life!
Here are 12 resolutions to help you live the life you want to live and you can start working towards these goals right now!
1. Find Work That You Love
We spend a great deal of our waking hours at work, so it stands to reason that your work should be something that you’re passionate about. It should give you not only a sense of purpose, but also pleasure (and of course, an income). Finding work that you love is one of the biggest things that you can do to make your life better. I myself spent far too long working in jobs which dragged me down. Eventually, I discovered that writing and teaching were not only things that I could make a living at, but that brought me joy. Now that I’m doing something that I love, I feel better, have a sense of inner peace and believe it or not, I actually make more money!
2. Make Love a Priority
There are few things which are as good for our physical and emotional health as loving relationships, which should be plenty of incentive for you to try to meet someone new!
3. Start an Emergency Fund
Everyone needs a little savings in case of emergencies. What if your employer went out of business? Gas prices and the cost of living in general are always rising and having a little extra set aside can help you to weather the tough times.
4. Simplify Your Life
De-clutter your home, scale back on some of your volunteer work or social activities to free up a little of your precious time and get more organized. It makes a world of difference!
5. Try Something New
Get out of your comfort zone and try something new. If you keep doing the same things, nothing will change!
6. Make Your Home a Sanctuary
Your home should be the one place where you can get away from the stresses of the world and relax. Celebrate yourself with your home décor and surround yourself with the colors and the things that you love. When you’re at home, you should be at peace – and if you can turn your home into your own restful oasis, that’s how you’ll feel.
7. Take Care of Your Health
Take a little time out here and there to relax and de-stress. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water and start exercising regularly. See your physician and dentist for regular checkups and remember, when your body is trying to tell you something, listen!
8. Choose to Spend Your Time with Positive People
Friends are a treasure and the best friends are like members of our family. However, false friends can cause you no end of trouble, as can friends who dwell on the negatives in life. Spend more of your time this year with positive people and you’ll find that their positive outlook is contagious.
9. Think Positive
The way that you think affects how you see the world and as a result, how you react to things. If you think positively, you’ll find yourself feeling the same way.
10. Embrace Your Spirituality
Whatever spiritual tradition (or lack thereof) you might follow, remember that it can have a powerful effect on your well-being. Whether it’s in the form of prayer or just quietly feeling thankful for what you have, take a little time out to connect with your spirituality.
11. Lose the Baggage
Walking around with a chip on your shoulder is bad for your posture, emotionally speaking.
12. Accept Yourself
Strive to be the best you that you can be, not for perfection. No one is perfect, but there’s just one you. You’re unique and you have value. Accept yourself, love yourself, forgive yourself and resolve to work every day to be the best person that you can possibly be!
